Earth Hour Los Angeles Announced by WWF and the Mayor Villaraigosa at L.A.LIVE!
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Nobel Prize-winner/Vice President and Managing Director for Climate Change for the World Wildlife Fund, Richard Moss, leader of the Agape International Spiritual Center, Reverend Michael Bernard Beckwith and President and CEO of AEG, Timothy J. Leiweke came together to officially announce Earth Hour Los Angeles, 2009. The announcement was made at Nokia Plaza at L.A. LIVE on Friday, March 27th. Mayor Villaraigosa expressed city-wide pride for Los Angeles being selected as a flagship city for this year's global event.
"We hope the entire Los Angeles community will join us as we turn off all non-essential city lights. Municipal buildings and many city landmarks will be going dark for Earth Hour. I'll be turning off the lights in my own home and I encourage everyone to do the same."
AEG's Leiweke announced L.A. LIVE as the official venue for Earth Hour Los Angeles. Dr. Moss stressed the symbolic nature of turning off the lights for Earth Hour, a reminder that one small act performed by many can make a huge difference.
